Overview:

Charnesia Davis, owner of Naturally Charming Universe, shares her journey from respiratory therapist to holistic healer in Grambling, Louisiana.

She goes by the name “Charming” but her birth name is Charnesia Davis.  She hails from Sterlington, LA and is Owner of the new holistic healing and accessories shop in downtown Grambling called, Naturally Charming Universe.

She was first given the nickname “Charming” in college and “it stuck”.  “When I would travel to different places, it was sometimes difficult for people to pronounce my name so I started using “Charming” and, people said it matched [my personality] so I just went with it.  It also goes well with what I do.”

When asked how she ended up in Grambling from Sterlington doing this kind of work, she replied,  “GOD! …Because I was not looking to come to Grambling.”  Charming said she  was working in Ruston at the North Louisiana Medical Center as a Respiratory Therapist and was, all of sudden, released from her job.  She said she had no real warning, but later found out that it was some things at play behind the scenes that she knew nothing about that caused it to happen.

So, a few days later, a friend, who knew she was in transition, told her that he knew about a place in Grambling that he wanted her to look at.

“And we came over here and we looked at it through the window, and then I called the number that was out there and she (the Landlord) didn’t answer. But when we went to go get breakfast, she called me back and said she could show it to us that morning.  So, I came, and looked at it and the same day, by 9 p.m. that evening, I had the key.”  She said.

“So that’s how I knew it was God because it wasn’t in my plan. I just got released from a job. So why would I create a larger bill?  But it felt right in my spirit and every single time, every person that walks through that door speaks words of affirmation, knowing that I’m in the right place at the right time.”

Charming knew from an early age that she had the gift of healing.  “I didn’t know what to call it then but I knew I could touch people and they would be better.”

She says as she got older, she knew she wanted to help people as a profession so she started at Grambling State in Nursing but later switched to CTC in Monroe for Respiratory Therapy.  It’s another thing she credits God for.  “I would have been so stressed out as a nurse.  But I’m so grateful [for Respiratory Therapy]. I love what I do.”

She says Respiratory Therapy is a form of healing work, also, “But now I get to do this on a whole other level of healing.”

She began her work in the holistic space around 2017.  “It started, literally, with healing with the crystals… crystal energy healing.  Then I started making bracelets for my coworkers in the hospital [where I was working at the time]. And I just kept with it throughout the years and God kept expanding [my knowledge].  So, I think after that, maybe it was herbs.”

When asked to explain exactly what energy healing it, she replied,  “So you know how you have your physical body… we work out and go to the gym. Also, with your physical body, you have nutrition from what you eat… So [my work] is in the “energy body” because we all are spirit beings inside of this vessel but we don’t focus on that part of ourselves at all because we haven’t been taught that. That’s where everything starts. Before [a problem becomes] something physical that you can go to the hospital and get  taken care of, it starts energetically and spiritually first.  I work in that space.”

She also explained that energy work is about getting to the real root cause of the problem whether it’s a trapped emotion or trauma that is stuck in the body that needs to be released.

“All things start energetically and physically first, but before it becomes a cancer or high blood pressure or, you know, restless leg syndrome or irritable bowel syndrome, each one of those organ systems are connected to certain energetic centers (Chakras). So, basically, it’s going to the root. We take medicine, basically putting a Band-Aid on one thing, messing up something else, whereas this is a natural, holistic, approach, it’s no harm caused.  It’s a way of healing at the root of something.”

Crystal healing is just one form of energy healing she performs.  She also administers Reiki healing which is the same as “laying hands”.  “Just like in church.”  She added.  She went on to explain that Reiki was named after a Japanese healer who followed Jesus’ teachings and discovered he could perform some of the same type of healings that Jesus did.  He then went on to teach others how to do it.

She also does “sound baths”.   This is achieved by hitting the outside and inside of “sound bowls” to achieve certain frequencies.  “With the sound bowls, each one has a different frequency that works on the different energetic portals or centers, in your body. Each one is connected to different organs and has different feelings connected.”

She said soon she will be offering juices and teas that are all-natural for holistic nutrition.  “That also helps you balance your [chakras] as well through your food.”

Her answer to naysayers who say, it’s all “woo-woo” stuff or the devil’s work she’s doing, she says, “Because they fear what they don’t understand. And, they also just take what someone else is teaching them. People can only teach us from their [own limited] experiences, but you have to have a connection with God on your own, a relationship with God on your own, not just through your church or your pastor.  So, when you do that, you’re connected to a source and you have a knowing of truth within you.”

She goes on to say, “So, for people who do come and they’re afraid or something like that, I don’t even try to persuade them unless they’re open-minded so that they can even receive me.  And, then, I try to educate them and, tell them what I know to be true from my spirit, not from what somebody has taught me. And if it’s for them, they’ll receive it. And if it’s not, it’s okay because God is all. I’m not tapping into something weird. I just don’t have to have a middleman to connect to source.”

Lastly, Charming says it’s important for people to know that they are doing the work themselves. “I’m just a vessel to start the spark to the flame but they are doing the work.  God is using me to facilitate that energy for you to heal yourself because he made us to be able to heal ourselves.  But, if you have no direction or `knowing’ of that power, how can you use it?   So, I just basically try to expose them to that and be that vibration in that space so that they can tap into that part of themselves. Because we’re all magical. We’re all powerful beings.”
